A LAND OF WONDER

Australia's size gives it a wide variety of landscapes, with tropical rainforests in the north-east, mountain ranges in the south-east, south-west and east, and desert in the centre. The desert or semi-arid land commonly known as the outback makes up by far the largest portion of land. The fauna of Australia consists of a huge variety of animals; some 83% of mammals, 89% of reptiles, 90% of fish and insects and 93% of amphibians that inhabit the continent are endemic to Australia.

There are about 10,000 crocodiles in Kakadu – and that doesn’t include hatchlings! These fascinating creatures have been present in marine environments for millions of years. The end of the dry season (August to November) is the best time to see concentrations of crocodiles. Depending on the weather and time of day they may be warming up in the sun or keeping cool in shade or the water. Before booking a cruise, ask your guide the best time of day to see crocs, as it can vary from week to week.
